Movie Rumors: Steve Carell may star in Warner Bros’ movie “Minecraft”

The Crazy Stupid Love Lead Actor, Steve Carell, is reported in talks to take part on Warner Bros' film adaptation of the hit video game, Minecraft. Aside from Actor Rob McElhenney, who is entitled for his film-directing debut on this project, Carell is the first high-profile name that may join the film.

The 40-year old actor was known for his movie "Anchorman 2" as Brick Tamland, and the movies "The Big Short" and "Foxcatcher".

The video game film adaptation seems to encountered many problems throughout the way, as they had to change their director at some time.  As Shawn Levy, revealed that Mojang, the company that created the popular video game is not in line with his idea for the movie. But it looks like it will push through after all, with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's actor Rob McElhenney directing.

It was also reported that the film had changed their writer, it was first given Jon Spaihts who has written films like Mummy, Passengers and Doctor Strange, but unfortunately, the Ice Age: Continental Drift, Pan and Lobo writer Jason Fuchs will be taking over the job.

Minecraft is a sandbox video game that permits the players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a three-dimensional procedurally generated world. It is available in different gameplay modes such as survival mode, adventure mode and creative mode. It was created on 2009, and as of June this year, it has sold for over 160 million copies through all platforms.

Warner Bros got the film rights from the developer Mojang in February 2014. As of now, there were no details given as to what character or role he will play in the video game adaptation. The studio couldn't announce the casting as of the moment and yet to release any storylines.

The film adaptation is set to be release on cinemas on May 2019.
