After eight long years of being tagged as the most powerful person in America, Barack Obama is finally biding the White House goodbye. He will step down from office and become a regular U.S. citizen by January of 2017. In his remaining days of being in command, Obama is still actively uniting the Americans. His latest attempt is by awarding important persons in different fields the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

It is the highest honor to be given to a civilian. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is a tribute to individuals in different fields of interest who have contributed to the country's pride and oneness. It may be portrayed through excellence in sports, academic, security, philanthropic works or entrepreneurship among others. Obama will lead the prestigious awarding ceremony will be held at the White House on November 22 as broadcasted by the White House last Wednesday.
Obama will present the award to rock star Bruce Springsteen and Soul Diva Diana Ross. Cited for Movies are well-respected actors Tom Hanks, Robert Redford and Robert de Niro. For sports, icon and former basketball champions, Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Other identified awardees are philanthropist couple Bill Gates and wife Melinda, TV host Ellen DeGeneres and baseball broadcaster Vin Scully. The White House released a statement containing the names of the recipients for this year's award.
Last year's recipients of the prestigious awards from Obama include baseball icon Yogi Berra for sports. Singer and songwriter Bob Dylan was cited for music. Director Steven Spielberg was named for movies and former U.S Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
Obama has been quoted saying that the award is not just an honor but a tribute. The message is that all Americans, no matter where we come from, have the chance to change the country for the better.
