Kate Upton had an issue about two writers who completely omitted Verlander from their list of preferred pitchers. Verlander had the most No. 1 votes with 14 out of 30 ballots, while Porcello had 8. Porcello led in No. 2 votes with 18, while Verlander had 2.
In the end, the point system showed that Porcello was the best pitcher in the league by a slight margin. The absence of his name on two ballots meant that two sports writers think that Verlander did not even deserve to be in the top five AL pitchers list for 2016.
