‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ Air Date, Cast, News & Updates: SyFy Adapts Classic Sci-Fi Book Into TV Series

"Stranger in a Strange Land" is coming to SyFy. Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions are working with SyFy to adapt Robert Heinlein's 1961 sci-fi classic as a TV series.

Empire Online revealed that the original "Stranger in a Strange Land" book story was set after World War III. The focus is on Valentine Michael Smith, who was born in Mars and raised by Martians. He arrives on Earth in early adulthood to explore and interact with various features and cultures of the world.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" Highlights Controversial Issues From The 1960s

"Stranger in a Strange Land" predicted several of the sentiments and agenda of the 1960s, such as hippie and world peace movements. Religion and sex were controversial topics in "Stranger in a Strange Land," although indispensable. The story was intended to be seen from the perspective of a non-human.

Bonnie Hammer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment chairman said that from her point of view, "Stranger in a Strange Land" is not just a science-fiction master piece. It is also one of her favorite books, because of the timeless story that resonates more than ever in the present. She is a fan of the book and is excited to see "Stranger in a Strange Land" adapted into a world-class television event.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" Air Date: Cast To Be Announced

The Hollywood Reporter said "Stranger in a Strange Land" will be the third time that Paramount TV and UCP partner for a TV project. The first two were "Shooter" on USA Network, and "Pendergast" on Spike TV. Amy Powell, Paramount TV president, said that they are very excited to work on Robert Heinlein's seminal sci-fi work.

She is also a huge fan of the book and its timeless approach. Amy commended Syfy for its unmatched understanding of imaginative and futuristic programming, making it an ideal partner to launch "Stranger in a Strange Land" on TV.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" on SyFy will be executive produced by Brad Fischer, William Sherak and James Vanderbilt of Mythology Entertainment, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Garrett Basch of Scott Rudin Productions, and Joe Vecchio of Vecchio Entertainment. Julia Gunn of Mythology Entertainment will serve as co-executive producer. The cast members, as well as the release date, of "Stranger in a Strange Land" have yet to be announced.
