‘Duck Dynasty’ Cancelled: A&E Show Ending In April 17 After Five Years; What Will The Robertson Family Do Next?

The current season of "Duck Dynasty" will apparently be its last, after news surfaced that the A&E reality TV show will be cancelled. Some members of the Robertson family and A&E confirmed that it will be the last "Duck Dynasty" season during the premiere on Nov. 16, 2016.

Korie, Willie Robertson's wife, stated that they decided as a family that the current "Duck Dynasty" season will be the last in the series. However, she added that they might return for a special for two. The series finale is scheduled to air on Apr. 21, 2017.

Willie Robertson tweeted his thanks to viewers for a successful five-year run of "Duck Dynasty," and promised that the last season will be great. Jase Robertson also confirmed the final run of "Duck Dynasty." He said that the current season will be long, and that they may do an occasional special in the future.

TVLine reported that "Duck Dynasty" follows Willie Robertson, his brothers Jep, Jase and Alan, his parents Phil and Miss Kay, and his uncle Si. The show delves on the family's activities and adventures as owners of the lucrative Duck Commander duck-call business in Louisiana. Although "Duck Dynasty" started out strong in 2012, quickly becoming the most-watched nonfiction series in cable TV history.

However, the reality TV show has been plagued by controversy and lowering TV ratings in the past years. In 2013, Phil Robertson made anti-gay and racial slurs in a GQ interview, which caused his suspension from "Duck Dynasty."

The show was not cancelled and Phil was subsequently allowed to appear again. "Duck Dynasty" managed to garner over 10 million viewers in 2013, but the numbers kept dwindling to an average of 1.5 million viewers at present. It is still the top show on A&E among total viewers.

Variety stated that in the video announcement after the "Duck Dynasty" season premiere, the Robertson family mentioned that there will be new episodes through Jan. 18, 2017. "Duck Dynasty" will continue on March 1 with seven more episodes, with the last one airing on April 12.

A&E stated that "Duck Dynasty" will end after 130 episodes. More updates and details on "Duck Dynasty" are expected soon.
