‘Passengers’ Release Date, News & Update: Jennifer & Chris, Great Together; Stars’ Chemistry Not Enough To Sell Movie; Sony’s Biggest Christmas Gamble?

The romantic sci-fi movie "Passengers" which is expected to air in Dec. 21, is casting two of the most highly paid stars in Hollywood, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. Now, new reports are claiming that even though Lawrence and Pratt are a great match, their chemistry is not enough to sell the movie.

The "Passengers" revolves around two characters, Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) and Jim Preston, (Chris Pratt) who have awakened 90 years early, are on-board an intersteller spaceship voyaging to a distant colony planet. Aurora and Jim along with other passengers are supposed to be in slumber since the spaceship will travel for 120 years.

Although Director Morten Tyldum has expressed his satisfaction on the performance of the two stars, rumors are rife that Jennifer's million dollar talent and Chris' popularity are not enough to sell the movie. As reported by Forbes, the "Passengers" is a highly expensive film with a budget of 90 million to 120 million dollars. Moreover, the movie is merely a love story of two people, alone, and stranded in outer space, trying to save themselves from the malfunctioned spaceship.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the "Passengers" movie will provide the viewers with an exciting animation and technological advancement that would provide big time effects. However, reports have claimed that this movie is Sony's biggest Christmas gamble. The rating of the movie highly depends on the star power of Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, as well as the director's imaginative concepts translated into the movie's character development.

Now, speculations are increasingly pointing to Sony's ability to make a blockbuster movie that solely depends on the popularity and chemistry of the two stars. Critics have questioned whether the combined star power of the "Hunger Games" star and the "Jurassic World" actor could put Sony into the spotlight. Furthermore, the "Passengers" has been rated PG-13 for nudity and sexuality.
