CONSOLES

There’s not much to choose from between the PS4 and a high-end PC

Nothing can be said specifically as to what kind of power we can expect when next generation consoles like Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 finally hit store shelves. Naturally, we expect quite a lot as compared to the current generation, new reports claim that Sony's PS4 will harbor that much power, similar to a high-end PC.

There have been speculations in the past stating that neither the Xbox One nor the PlayStation 4 will be powerful than a regular high-end PC, but Sam Abbott of Compulsions Games seemed to add more information and his own thoughts into that notion.

Abbott was recently interviewed by Gamingbolt, and discussed the studio's upcoming indie title Contrast. Later, when asked if there would be any difference for the PS4 version for the game as compared to the game running on a high-end PC, Abbott stated: "Naturally, the PS4 is very powerful, so we can turn on a bunch of graphical features to make it look very nice."

"However, there should be very little difference between the PS4 and a high end PC. Contrast looks fantastic on both platforms right now, and we're excited to share how it's looking with people soon."

On a similar note, Abbott also revealed that Contrast would last for about 4-5 hours, with the company also looking ahead to introduce DLCs for the game in the near future.

"Roughly 4-5 hours. Contrast allows a bit more exploration than Portal, and while we'd like to enable additional content (perhaps through Steam Workshop), it's not something we're actively pursuing. We may look at DLC too, if our fans are particularly interested in new content from us," he added.

Additionally, a new report from analyst firm Strategy Analytics shows that negative perceptions related to Microsoft's next-generation video game console have already reached average consumers.

The survey found out, according to WebProNews, "that 14.2% of more than 6,000 consumers surveyed in the U.S. and Europe were 'very or somewhat likely' to purchase a PlayStation 4 within the next year. Only 9.5 of consumers could say the same about the Xbox One. The firm believes this consumer sentiment could predict 50% higher sales of the PlayStation 4 over the Xbox One."

The PlayStation 4 is currently slated for a late 2013 release.
