"New Mutants" is a Marvel Comics that features a group of teenage mutant superheroes in training. It is a spin-off of the X-Men franchise and introduces heroes like Deadpool. Because of the huge success of "X-Men" and a number of Marvel comics, it is only a matter of time until "New Mutants" is being adapted into a movie.
The first announcement of "New Mutants" was made in 2015 with Josh Boone as the director. Speculations about the cast include Nat Wolff as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik. However, it is only until recently that an animated storyboard came out of what looks like the superheroes fighting the fan-favorite villain, the Demon Bear.
The Demon Bear is a regular nemesis in the "New Mutants" comic books, and interestingly enough, it is illustrated in the leaked storybook by Coming Soon. The Demon Bear first appeared in "New Mutants" No. 3 and it is a strong, giant bear that can channel power from negative human emotions. It also has the ability to teleport and to corrupt human souls. Additionally, in an Instagram post by Josh Boone, he hinted a few characters appearing in the movie. The team is pretty much the same as the group of "New Mutants" in the comic book, except for Magik instead of the original leader, Karma.
Aside from the Demon Bear, and based on the animatic, another fan-favorite character, Lockheed could also appear in the movie. Lockheed has been a pet and a constant companion of Kitty Pryde in Marvel Comics. ComingSoon reported that "New Mutants" will feature a "Stephen King meets John Hughes" style of horror or thriller movie. The filming is expected to start in the earlier part of 2017 and is expected to hit the cinemas by spring 2018.
