Bliazzard’s upcoming MMO title Project Titan has been announced at a time when Blizzard has been dealing with massive loss of subscribers for World of Warcraft in recent months. However, the company is far from giving up and has been busy with Titan. Now, new reports claim that Titan may not go the same subscription-based route as their acclaimed MMORPG, World of Warcraft.
Recently, Blizzard’s President Mike Morhaime took the center stage at an investor’s call, and revealed that the game may not be the usual subscription-based title that we are so used to with World of Warcraft.
According to Morhaime at the investor’s call: “We’re in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be. While we can’t talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG.” Morhaime later went on to confirm that there hasn’t been any official or a projected release date for the game asof yet, although a potential 2016 release was said to be on the cards.
The entire speech from Morhaime reads as follows:
“We’re in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be. And while we can’t talk about the details yet, it’s unlikely to be a subscription based MMORPG. I also want to reiterate there has not been an official announced or projected release date. What I can say is the commitment to quality has always been at the core of Blizzard values, and we’ve gone through this iterative process several times in the past on the way to creating genre defining games. As we continue our assignments we have shifted some of the resources from the team to our other franchises including WoW and Blizzard All Stars which we believe will add immense value to those projects.”
So if Titan, as Morhaime states, isn't going to be a subscription-based title, the only thing the developer can do with the game is make it a free-to-play title for all. But again, all that needs to be clarified officially by the company.
