CONSOLES

Xbox One DOES come bundled with a headset

Here's another one from the smarties over at Microsoft, showing that either they have horrendous communication skills with its support staff, or that the company as a whole just can't make up its damn mind. The company confirmed today, that despite what the company's support staff would've had you believe once upon a time, the Xbox One will indeed come with a headset.

Funny, because the last official word on including a headset was the following: "Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory. Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences," wrote Microsoft. "For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire."

Apparently, the new version of Kinect has the ability to filter out TV noise and pick up quite voice commands from around the room. Either it doesn't do it well enough, or gamers don't seem to have much faith in its ability. Either way, Microsoft didn't officially comment on the change of heart.

This move by Microsoft echoes the company's policy switch for the Xbox One in regards to sharing and selling used games, and maintaining a constant online connection.

Now, it's great that Microsoft is changing policies in response to its audience, but the fact that it's coming so late in the game has me question whether they really knew what they were doing all along, or if they even had a plan to begin with, not to mention that they never knew what consumers really wanted in the first place. Frankly, it makes them look foolish. Personally, I can't help but wonder if switching around their unpopular policies was the plan all along, as though it were part of some conspiracy to make them look like the good guy who listens to the audience. Next thing you know, they'll announce that a Xbox Live Gold account won't be required to access the console's various goodies, like recording and sharing gameplay.

When launching their last console, the Xbox 360, Microsoft did offer a headset in box.
