One of the highlights of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 would have to be the return of former lead actress Nina Dobrev in the highly-anticipated series finale. To support this, there have now been reports stating that Dobrev had already started filming for the exciting episode this season.

Nina Dobrev Returns

"The Vampire Diaries" saw Elena Gilbert, the main character portrayed by Nina Dobrev, having an open-ended fate during the finale of Season 6. This allows for the return of the character in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. With the series finally concluding this season, many fans are clamoring for the actress to return, whether she plays Elena or Katherine.

It has been hinted, however, that Dobrev might return to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 as Katherine, so as to avoid any scenes with ex-boyfriend and show lead actor Ian Somerhalder. Despite this though, fans are still hoping for a closure in the relationship of Damon and Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

Some rumors suggest that Dobrev will be appearing on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Episode 12, which is scheduled to air soon. This may have sparked the rumors that the actress had already filmed her scenes. However, no official word had been released yet regarding the return of Dobrev in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

Reports have also said that upon Debrov's departure from "The Vampire Diaries," ratings have started to decline. This is why it has been always implied that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 fans will still have the chance to see either Elena or Katherine for at least one more time.

Stefan and Caroline's Relationship

Julie Plec, the executive producer of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, had also revealed what happens next on the relationship of Stefan and Caroline, played by Paul Wesley and Candice Accola-King, respectively. Plec said that the two will be moving forward with their relationship in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

This is certainly good news for the fans of the show, as the couple has already been through a lot of dark moments in "The Vampire Diaries." However, there have been rumors implying the opposite fate. This is because Candice Accola-King is set to join the cast of "The Originals" as Caroline. The sixth episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 airs on December 2, while the series finale is set to air on March 2017.
