CONSOLES

Xbox One set to arrive on Nov. 22?

The first thing that comes to anyone's mind when discussing Microsoft's upcoming next generation console is a probable date for the console to release. While Microsoft has already revealed that the console is set for a November 2013 release, the company is yet to mention a specific date that would support its cause. However, it seems like there has been some build-up to that recently.

Recently, an unnamed source "close to a large online organization" came in touch with NVG and revealed that the Xbox One will see a final release date on Nov. 22. However, no additional details related to the console were discussed.

Nonetheless, with the new revelation related to the console, a few questions that have popped up whether the new date is just a North American release date, or a worldwide launch date for the console. If it turns out to be accurate, why the new release date for the Xbox One is a week after Sony's PS4 launch in the U.S., and a week before the PS4's launch in Europe?

According to NVG's speculation, the date is related to this year's Black Friday falling on "November 29th along with the European PlayStation 4 release date, and it's unlikely Microsoft would want to launch their console during such a chaotic event as Black Friday."

The newest detail regarding the console's release date arrived after recently a source close to Walmart told Kotaku in an email that the Xbox One release date would be Nov. 8, a week ahead of the PlayStation 4. However, nothing was confirmed.

Later, more rumors arrived when an Amazon listing for various first-party products showed that the Xbox One will finally arrive on Nov. 27. However, the date was later believed to be a placeholder date for the final listing to exist on Amazon.

With the clock winding down, it's not just us getting impatient while trying to find a real date for the console release. Big names in the industry like EA also want Microsoft to produce a confirmed date for its new console.

Speaking with GamesIndustry International, EA's COO Peter Moore talked about the proximity between each console's release date: "It has never happened this way. There's always been a period of time, a sorbet between consoles, that has cleansed the palate and allowed us to move on. It might be a week, who knows? Microsoft needs to cough up the date."

More on the Xbox One is expected to be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
