Call of Duty: Ghosts is on the path ‘to be most pre-ordered game of 2013’

The next Call of Duty title – Call of Duty: Ghosts – is almost upon us. And with its nearest competitor EA with its Battlefield 4 also set to release around the same time, the market is expected to witness the fight to be on top with both companies fighting to show a decent sales figure for their titles. However, in a new report, retailer GameStop has announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts is on its way to become the most pre-ordered game of the year.

Bob Puzon, GameStop’s senior VP of merchandizing, recently stated in a newly released press release: “Call of Duty is an entertainment juggernaut and cultural phenomenon. We are excited for the upcoming release of the new installment of this blockbuster franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts. We look forward to celebrating the worldwide November launch of this great game that is on track to be the most pre-ordered title of the year.”

“Puzon's choice of words doesn't make it clear how GameStop is defining its metrics, and whether they're basing the claim on pre-orders placed within 2013 or for games due to be released in 2013. If it's the former, expect the majority of pre-orders for GTA 5 to have been placed in 2012,” Videogamer writes.

“Nevertheless, Puzon's claims are surprising given Activision's comments last month and next week's release of GTA 5 – a title expected to break the opening week sales record currently held by the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.”

The newly predicted revelation came via a press release highlighting a new pre-order promotion. “With Activision's new blockbuster Call of Duty and Eminem's new The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (Aftermath/Interscope) dropping on the same date this November, fans of both are in store for an incredible offer at a great price,” it stated.

“In close collaboration with GameStop, anyone who pre-orders the game at GameStop will get their copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts at launch, which will include a code, at time of pick up, to download a special edition of Eminem's new The Marshall Mathers LP 2 featuring an exclusive, bonus studio track at a special price of $8.99.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently scheduled for a Nov. 5 launch worldwide.
