'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' vs 'Star Wars: Episode 8': George Lucas Reveals Which He Likes Better

Fans may be torn whether they like "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" or "Star Wars: Episode 8" better. However, Star Wars creator George Lucas himself has already determined his preference.

George Lucas Personally Liked "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"

Cinema Blend revealed that "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards shared that George Lucas recently saw the finished film and gave his approval. Edwards said that he does not want to put words in Lucas' mouth, but he can honestly say that he can die a happy man, because the latter liked "Rogue One."

I meant a lot for Edwards that the "Star Wars" creator appreciated his work. He continued that he will bring the conversation to his grave, because Lucas' opinion means the world to him. The Verge wrote that Gareth Edwards is the second director after J.J. Abrams, to head a Star Wars film after Lucas sold the franchise to Disney in 2012.

Edwards showed "Rogue One" to Lucas himself and was very happy with the feedback, especially because he respects the creator so much. Lucas previously said that fans would definitely enjoy "Episode 7," although he did not give his personal thumbs up in the same fashion that he did to "Rogue One."

"Rogue One" Can Shape Future Star Wars Films

The success of "Rogue One" could shape the future of future Star Wars movies. "Rogue One" is the first standalone film which will determine how future spin-offs should be made.

The biggest challenge involves knowing which elements in Star Wars will bring together its true identity, while ascertaining that the feel that Star Wars fans have always admired through the years is maintained. "Rogue One" is set shortly after the events of "Revenge of the Sith."

The young Jyn (Felicity Jones) is on a mission to stop the Death Star from being made. "Rogue One" goes straight into the action, instead of going for the traditional gradual unraveling of the plot. There are a number of familiar elements in the story, such as Darth Vader, X-Wings and Stormtroopers.

However, Edwards felt that they should also differentiate themselves from the saga. Many of the characters will be new in "Rogue One." The film is set to launch on Dec. 16, 2016.
