MLB Trade Rumors: The Los Angeles Angels Are Looking For A Second Baseman. Brian Dozier To The Angels?

With a new 5 year Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) already in place, it's open season once again in Major League Baseball (MLB).  Free agent signings everywhere, the trade rumor mill is heating up and the so called MLB Winter Meetings are underway.

The Los Angeles Angels have been slowly building up the team's roster this off season.   Los Angeles Angels General Manager Billy Eppler has been quietly plugging the holes and filling up the needs of the team.  Billy Eppler has so far brought in Cameron Maybin to the left field (LF) spot and signing reliever Andrew Bailey to a new deal.  However, there is still one major position that needs to be filled up this off season.  And that position is second base.

There are a handful of second basemen (2B) available in the free agent market that could fill up the Los Angeles Angels need for that position like Justin Turner and Chase Utley of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Neil Walker of the New York Mets.  Billy Eppler could take his pick on which to pursue and offer a contract.  But knowing Billy Eppler history in free agent signings, he'd probably opt for low key 2B signing rather than go for gold.

But if Billy Eppler does go for gold, why not go for the big fish and try to reel in the Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier.

Last 2015-2016 MLB season, the Minnesota Twins Brian Dozier is coming off a career year.  Brian Dozier batted .268, a rather respectable batting average.  But he did have 42 homers.  He also had a SLG (slugging percentage) of .546 and a wRC+ (weighted runs created) of 132 on his way t0 accumulating 5.9 fWAR (wins above replacement).  The guy can hit and with stats like that, Angels' fans are wishing they have that guy on their team.  Brian Dozier still has two years and about $15 million left on his contract.

Now the question is what will Billy Eppler have to do to try and pry Brian Dozier away from the Minnesota Twins?  The answer is a lot.  The Los Angeles Angels would have to propose a trade that would blow away the Minnesota Timberwolves for them to move Brian Dozier.

Another problem is that Brian Dozier has a lot of other suitors.  Other teams with more assets and of course money.  Teams like the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

So it's probably a longshot for the Los Angeles Angels to acquire Brian Dozier.  But hey, anything is possible and anything can happen in the MLB.
