‘Pete’s Dragon’ and ‘BFG’ News & Updates: Disney Films Dominate As Part Of The Best-Selling Discs In 2016

Disney film claimed the top three as the best-selling discs in this year 2016 as "Pete's Dragon" at claimed the No.1 spot while " BFG" came in at No.3.

The 1977 musical remake of Disney film's "Pete's Dragon" had replaced the Walt Disney Studios' "Finding Dory" being the No.1 on the national home video sales charts. The live-action animated Disney film had also earned almost $77M in U.S Theaters.

It was a family adventure about the huge green forest dragon named Elliot in Pacific Northwest and became friends with a 10-year old orphaned boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley). The story revolved in the discovery of forest ranger named Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) who heard stories about a dragon living in the forest and found the orphaned boy. Pete became friends with Mr. Meacham's daughter named Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) and adjust himself in the civilization outside the forest.

"Pete's Dragon" wasn't the only Disney's film lead as one of the best-selling discs this year. "BFG" claimed the No.3 spot on the NPD VideoScan overall combined of Blue-ray disc and DVD sales.

In addition, the movie also earned the domestic gross of less than $56M. Steven Spielberg, the director and co-producer of "BFG" adapts the late Roald Dahl's story fantasy "The BFG" that talked about a 10-year-old orphaned girl Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) who met the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). Despite his scary appearance, the Big Friendly Giant has a kind-hearted soul and differs from the other giants when it comes to eating children.

Furthermore, other movies such as "Don't Breathe" got the No.4 spot, "Harry Potter" set on the No. 5. Warner titles had also earned their places to the top 20 this week; "Elf" for No.6, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" became No.9, "The Polar Express" for No. 11, "A Christmas Story" for No. 19, and the original animated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" for No. 20.
