Hackers stole the photos of “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams from her Facebook page and posted it on a Reddit thread. While the pictures showed the 19-year-old star topless, her back was turned.
But netizens used the hacked photos – taken when Maisie Williams was in Japan while the actress and her friends were at a spa – turn the images into a scandal, Mashable reports. A Redditor, who claimed to be a friend of the actress, posted a Photoshopped screenshot of the images to show it originally came from Maisie Williams’ Facebook page. But the Redditor removed identifying marks.
The Dolphin Project
Maisie Williams was in Japan for The Dolphin Project which she and Harry Styles support. The project’s objective is to protect dolphin, an endangered species. She went to Japan to protest the country’s dolphin hunt and the animal’s use in stage shows, according to E! News.
A representative for Maisie Williams confirmed the online images were taken from the personal social media account of the actress. But the representative stressed the photos were not explicit. The photos shows Maisie Williams, or Arya Stark on “Game of Thrones,” sitting topless on a rock.
The Fappening
She also had images undressing with friends near an ocean which were also posted on a Reddit thread without Maisie Williams’ permission. The hacking just comes weeks after the hacker of Jennifer Lawrence’s nude photos and other female celebrities was sentenced to 18 year in jail.
Another hacker was handed a 10-year prison term for the same offense. The two hackers stole the photos from the iCloud accounts of the celebrities. Jennifer Lawrence, the biggest celebrity affected by the hacking, described the incident – called Fappening – as not a sex scandal but a sex crime. And that was what hackers of Maisie Williams’ photo apparently wanted to do – to make a spa photo a sex scandal.
