Ridiculous Fishing's Android Release is 'Sooner Than You Think' Says Vlambeer

Android Owners Might Be Able to Turn Sea Life into Chum in Ridiculous Fishing Pretty Soon

For you Android owners jealous of all the big games that iOS gets first, I know, it sucks having to wait around. Luckily, if Ridiculous Fishing developer Vlambeer is to be believed, it won't be much longer until the uber-absurd fishing title is available on Android phones and tablets.

In a post on the
Vlambeer blog, the team said it has been working with a company to bring the game on over to Android, and the process shouldn't take much longer.

"The breakthrough came when we met up with the folks at Apportable, who have a framework that allows them to port the game over to Android," reads the post. "That port is now almost done, and the next time you see us mentioning this should be when it releases. It might be sooner than you think."

Ridiculous Fishing is currently only available on iOS devices, but caught a lot of attention when it first released this past March. True to its name, the game is all about sending your lure n' hook as deep as it'll go so you can snag as many fish as possible. Once they little bastards have taken the bait, you bring 'em to the surface where upon you promptly blast them with the firearm of your choice. Controlling the lure is fairly basic, tilting the iPad or iPhone back and forth. It's a bit twitchy at first, but easy to get used to. The more fish you shoot, the more winnings you get, which can be used to upgrade, or buy new equipment. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It may sounds monotonous, but a "shoppe ship" provides 8 different levels of upgrades, each with their own strengths and weakness to keep it interesting. Your beginning pistol is little more than a pea shooter, whereas the next upgrade, the shotgun, is indeed powerful, able to bring down a group of fish with one blast, but you'll have to wait between shots as reloading is required. Soon enough, you'll find the best balance of lure, gun, and tech to help you bring in the biggest and baddest representatives of the underwater kingdom, and you'll be blasting fish out of the water like Chief Brody.

The team easily could've left it at that, but decided to add in a fish-o-pedia complete with humorous entries, a twitter parody called "Byrdr," as well as multiple waters for you to fish in, each with an alarming amount of depth and variety of fishies to hook, everything from piranha to sea turtles, and deep sea monsters.

It's a complete game, with good variety, and the availability of options helps keep the experience from wearing thin. At $2.99, it's also a great price for the amount of game you get. We'll keep you posted if the team ever mentions a release date for Android.
