Rumors have been circulating online before that "Cloverfield 3" is already in the works, but it may be under a different title. J.J. Abrams has also announced before that he and his production company, Bad Robot, have already been planning to release a follow-up for "10 Cloverfield Lane." Paramount may have actually confirmed the third film due to the delayed release date of one of their films.
Based on reports, J.J. Abrams is a producer with one of the projects of Paramount called "God Particle." Some fans of the "Cloverfield" movie franchise have already been speculating that it would actually be the third installment. J.J. Abrams has always been known to be secretive with his project and one example was his project, "10 Cloverfield Lane," where its first working title was "The Cellar." Paramount may have seemed to reveal that "God Particle" is actually "Cloverfield 3."
It was reported that the production of "God Particle" or started back in June. The original release date of the movie was supposed to be on Feb. 24, 2017, but has been pushed back to Oct. 27 of the same year instead. Moreover, Paramount has set a project named "2017 Cloverfield Movie" on the same new release date of "God Particle." This possibly confirms that "God Particle" is "Cloverfield 3," but Paramount did not reveal the details why they pushed back the launch date of the film.
However, "God Particle" or "Cloverfield 3" may not be a direct sequel to the past two films, but it is set in the same universe of the movie franchise. With this, the third installment shares some similarities with "10 Cloverfield Lane" which is an indirect sequel to the original film.
The gist of "Cloverfield 3" will center on a group of astronauts located inside a space station. After performing an experiment, the astronauts have claimed that planet Earth has vanished and it is up to them to solve the mystery behind this. The cast members that are part of the movie are Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Zhang Ziyi, David Oyelowo and Chris O'Dowd. The movie is slated to be released on Oct. 27. 2017.
