Xbox One System Update is Live, As is PS4 System Update 1.52

Next-Gen System Updates are a Go For Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Ah yes, that glorious time when the updates for the next-gen systems are upon us, making things that much easier for the brand new consoles. Unfortunately, there's little to go on on the PlayStation 4 front, as the official patch notes haven't yet been given, but here's what we know so far.

Microsoft's Director of Programming for Xbox Live, Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, offered some details on the recent Xbox One update via his blog.

For anyone using the console's Instant On option, your system will automatically download the update once it's been turned off, if you haven't done so already. It requires the system to automatically power down, so the voice command feature won't be active until the update's been completely installed. If you're not using the feature, you'll be required to download the update as of tomorrow, Thursday, December 12.

This update addresses the following:

- Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
- Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
- Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
- Addresses dashboard performance for some users
- Offers improvements for Xbox One's TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
- Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users

Consult the official support document if you have any questions.

As far as things go on the PS4 side, we know that the update is also ready to go, but we don't know much about it. Thanks to a tweet, we know that the update is supposed to at least "improve system software stability." According to a report from PlayStation Lifestyle, one expected adjustment was to allow gamers to plug their Sony Pulse headsets directly into the DualShock4 controller.

We'll keep you posted on Sony provides an official patch list.
