In an interview with Nina Dobrev During the American Music Awards she was asked about her return in the series, but she just answered that her return depends upon the producers. It could possibly mean that Damon's death on the upcoming episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 might occur.
Ian Somerhalder also said in a statement that he'd rather choose Elena to be awake at mystic falls then let these vampires and witches go away and let the humanity win. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 almost wrapped up for its finale, but the casts and the fans are clueless about Niña Dobrev's return.
It is said in a recent report that Dobrev and ex-boyfriend Somerhalder still have unresolved issues. However, The Gamers Drop wrote that Dobrev of "The Vampire Diaries" is rumored to return to the show. It appears that Nina is oblige to return owing to her promise to showrunner Julie Plec.

Dobrev starred in the film "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" together with the actor Vin Diesel and veteran actor Samuel Jackson. Rumors suggest that she'd love TV guestings and wanted to focus on movies than to be back in the small screens along with reprising her role as Elena for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

Dobrev's absence in "The Vampire Diaries" spawned apprehensions for the fan and followers of the series. For others, it is understandable that she would return since she's been a part of the series since day one, but everything remains to be seen and verified.
