New Angry Birds Game Announced: Angry Birds Stella, or, Something For the Girls

Angry Birds Stella Announced

Rovio has just announced their next Angry Birds spin-off, Angry Birds Stella. The name isn't from a beer or an Interpol song- Stella is the pink bird last seen in their free-to-play kart racer Angry Birds Go

"Get ready to meet Stella and her friends! Stella may be pink, but she's definitely one of the Angry Birds, a fierce and a feisty character with a great group of friends. Of course no story is complete without some interesting (fr)enemies!"

Can you not be pink and angry at the same time? I know a lot of babies that would disagree with that.

As with all of other Rovio's offerings Stella will be turned into a multiple games, animation, books, toys, snacks, and who knows what else. Diversification! It's one way to ensure your company keeps up in the face of slacking game sales. The free-to-play model has been working out great, too. Just ask Clash of Clans and their five million bucks a day

"Angry Birds Stella will open a door to a part of the Angry Birds universe you've never seen before! There will be plenty of fun and adventure, but the bunch of passionate pals will also have to deal with some serious issues in order to protect their friendship and the environment they live in. Luckily, Stella and her friends are good at finding creative solutions!"

So is it a bit demeaning that this seems to be aimed at girls? It's a bit sad that just because the game has a female protagonist everything has to be pink and all the characters have to work together in the name of friendship and being environmentally friendly. Can't girls just be angry for the sake of being angry? It's not as if Angry Birds has had a hard time enticing a female audience, either. But still, we'll see if Rovio's tactic pays off.

Angry Birds Stella will be released for iOS and Android sometime this Fall.
