The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 proved to be the single most compelling factor that made the company's run in 2016 catastrophic. Amid a virtual wipeout of stock values and massive revenue drops, the Korean tech giant's internal investigation on the device's exploding battery issue finally came to a close.

Mashable reported that Samsung finally knows what made the Galaxy Note 7 a literally-explosive affair. Although the company has yet to make an official statement on the probe's results, it heralds a welcome relief for future developments coming out of one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers.

Samsung didn't reveal details on when it will make its internal investigation's results public. Nonetheless, the probe signals that the company has made good on its promise to address the issue, as stated on its public apology over the Galaxy Note 7. Originally marketed as Samsung's 2016 flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7 fell gravely short of its highly-promising features due to a spate of reports involving the model's faulty battery. Reports on battery explosions have been so frequent, that several establishments have come to view it as a threat.

Airliners, in particular, have been wary of Galaxy Note 7 owners on board flights, leading them to urge passengers who own the model to either surrender or switch them off as they board. To prevent further unsavory cases from happening, Samsung issued major global recalls of the unit, and released an update rendering the ill-fated smartphone unusable.

Meanwhile, Samsung is currently working to prevent leaks on the upcoming Galaxy S8 from reaching the public prior to its scheduled April 2017 release. The company's President of Mobile Koh Dongjin noted how leaks have become damaging for the brand in the past, noting that he feels "deeply regretful to hear news of the recent attempts at data breach and prototype leak" on the upcoming flagship device.
