Call of Duty Elite Shutting Down: Activision Pulls the Plug, Ghosts Players Get Double XP

Activision Shuts Down Call of Duty Elite Service

By way of VideoGamer, we have today learned that Activision is pulling the plug on the Call of Duty Elite service. Launched in 2011 with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Elite gave players the ability to track their in-game stats, access exclusive content, customize their loadouts outside of the game, take part in challenges, and create and share videos.

Acitivison's shutdown of Elite leaves the Call of Duty: Ghosts mobile app for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone as its substitute. The app is free on all three platforms.

"We encourage fans to download the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which allows players to customize their multiplayer character and weapons loadouts on the go, keep track of their Call of Duty: Ghosts stats, and features Call of Duty Clan Wars, where players can compete for cool, exclusive in-game gear,” said the publisher.

Activision states that they have no plans to bring the Elite service back. While videos created through Elite will remain on the personal YouTube channels of its users, clan support "will no longer be accessible or function through Call of Duty Elite". Clan profiling is available on the Ghosts mobile app.

The Call of Duty Elite servers will be shut down on February 28 at roughly 10am PST. Activision will be rewarding anyone that has logged into the service since January 1 with two hours of Double XP in Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Activision's Elite support page has an FAQ that addresses what content will still be accessible after the service's shutdown later this week.
