Dead Nation PS4 Apocalypse Edition Release Date Announced For March 4, Free With PS Plus
Yesterday we brought you wind of a surprise listing on the Sony Computer Entertainment Asia blog for Dead Nation on the PlayStation 4. Today, Sony has officially announced that Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition will be coming to the console as soon as next week!
Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition has been developed in part by Housemarque, the folks behind the original Dead Nation on PlayStation 3, along with XDEV and Climax Studios. The first of many improvements to the Apocalypse Edition reside in its visuals; the game has received improved graphics, textures, and effects. As for gameplay, a new quick weapon select has been added to improve the speed in which players can alternate their weapons in combat.
Dead Nation's DLC pack, "The Road to Devastation", will be included in the Apocalypse Edition; the content will include two additional game modes: Arcade and Endless. Completely new to this PS4 release is Challenge mode – where players can compete against others on the leaderboards for the best scores per chapter. The person whom you're challenging will be represented within the game by a silhouette a la Mirror's Edge's time trials. Their moves can be studied in real time and bested.
But wait, there's more! Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition will be making full use of the PlayStation 4's Twitch streaming capabilities by allowing viewers to influence the course of the game via commands. Those taking part in Broadcast+ mode will be able to use over 30 different effects such as gifting items, limiting player speed, and spawning zombies. The streamers themselves will be able to interact with viewers by killing in-game zombies named after them.
Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition will be $14.99 (or free with a Plus subscription) on the PlayStation Store starting on March 4. There will also be future news on the PlayStation Vita version of the game, which was not shown off today.
