Pokémon X and Y News: Honedge Re-Created as a Real 'Pokey' Pocket Monster

Man at Arms Tony Swatton Chooses Pokemon Honedge as Next Re-Creation

We've seen "Man at Arms" Tony Swatton fashion himself some of the legendary weapons of Final Fantasy's Cloud and Sephiroth, Assassin's Creed's iconic hidden blade, and countless other ginzu gadgets. Now, he's adding some sharpness to the cutesy world of Pokémon.

Numbering over 700, there's a lot of pokémon for players to choose from as their favorite. But for a man known for having a certain amount of skill in making cutlery that could cut you in two, it should come as no surprise that Honedge is the go-to pocket monster for the blacksmith.

Honedge, "honed edge," as in sharp, get it? I swear, they just get more and more creative with these names with each new game...

Honedge is a ghost/steel type pokémon, able to learn sword dance. Makes sense. Honedge was originally nothing more than a sword, until a departed spirit thought the weapon would make a good as place as any to inhabit. Now in control of the sword, the spirit can use the blue cloth on the sword's hilt as an arm of sorts.

Now, the only spirit in control is Swatton's. Check out the process he used to bring Honedge to life in the video below.

Pokémon X and Y released this past fall to rave reviews as well as great sales numbers. It's also been reported by Nintendo Life that Masuda expressed interest in making more Mega Evolutions.

The games represent a radical change for the franchise, the top down perspective having been replaced with more of a three quarter perspective, and battles look radically different. As per usual, players will see several new pokémon, 5 of which were teased in the game's trailer at the time of the announcement. There's the usual array of new starter Pokémon, and each game will play host its own type of new, legendary Pokémon. And what's more, a number of classic Pokémon have earned mega-evolutions they can transform into during battle.
