A recent leak has apparently confirmed that Monolith Productions is involved with a sequel to "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor" released back in 2014. The leaked title is called "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" and is suspected to launch soon around summer. Reports claim that a retailer accidentally revealed the game through a product listing posted online.

Reports have confirmed that the retailer in questions is actually Target. The retailer reportedly posted a product listing showing the new game. The tweet supposedly includes the speculated release date for the game, which is Aug. 22, 2017. However, other sources are claiming it just might be a placeholder value instead of the final release date. According to Game Rant, Warner Bros. and the developer have not issued any confirmation about the unexpected reveal.

Sources have hinted that "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" will feature the same protagonists from "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor." The speculated story involves a quest forge a new ring with comparable powers as the one wielded by Sauron. As expected, the popular Nemesis System from the first Monolith Productions game will most likely make a comeback in the sequel. Additionally, the leaked product listing also revealed that players will "go behind enemy lines".

According to other sources, the retailer was able to upload the box art for the new game on their website. Meanwhile, the developer is also speculated to have a "Gold Edition" in the works for both console platforms. The special version will reportedly a season pass for future DLC content as well as a "Gold War Chest". The latter is an item that is suspected to reward players with premium in-game items.

Game Rant notes that a sequel for "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor" was previously rumored to make an appearance during last year's E3 event. The original game also won awards and received great reviews in 2014. Monolith Productions have not confirmed any details about their development progress on "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War", which leaves fans to suspect that the Aug. 22, 2017 date on the leaked post might be the game's target launch schedule.
