Blizzard Releases Thousands Of Warcraft 3 Assets To Starcraft 2 PTR; Recreate One Of The Best RTS Titles Of All Time Yourself

Starwarcraft! Blizzard Releases Thousands Of Warcraft III Assets To The Starcraft II Modding Community

Blizzard made their bread and butter on the real-time strategy Warcraft series - Warcraft II remains one of the greatest games of all time. And without Warcraft III, we would have no Dota 2 or League of Legends (and what would 100 million people do with themselves everyday?), because it was the Warcraft III map 'Defense of the Ancients' that was modded into what we now call MOBAs.

What's Going On In Azeroth This Month? Let's Check The WoW Schedule

And we all know about World of Warcraft and its dominance, and the rising star of Hearthstone - a spin-off card game based in the Warcraft universe. Yet, the progenitor, that amazing RTS game that took up entirely far too much of my youth, has been forgotten.

Until now. Blizzard may not ever make Warcraft IV, but they have gone and done the next best thing: released over three thousand Warcraft III assets for use by modders in the Starcraft II Public Test Realms and SC II's extensive map editor.

This Week's Game Releases Include Battlefield Hardline (Beta), Game Of Thrones And More

The mod kit includes "new hero models for the 4 primary races (Human, Night Elf, Undead, Orc), all of the original Warcraft III models including neutral creatures and their sounds as well as doodads, structures, spell effects, ambient sounds, music and custom user interfaces for each race."

Blizzard will then compile some of the best mods, in-game moments and recreations into a sort of spotlight compilation series called Memories of War and release them to the public. Circa 2002 characters, with the latest controls from Starcraft II. It's brilliant.

"To access the StarCraft II PTR, simply select it from the Region/Account dropdown on the Battle.net desktop home screen and begin the installation. Once it's complete, you can click on the 'Launch Editor' next to the 'Redeem a Code' or launch the editor directly by navigating to your StarCraft II Public Test folder."

Modders, please assemble a thorough campaign of the first War of the Ancients, when the Burning Legion first invaded Azeroth! Thank you kindly!
