Nintendo Switch Release Date, News & Update: Switch Includes Multi-Touch Screen, IR Sensor; Nintendo Teases Extensive Hardware Choices

Speculations have been rife about the Nintendo Switch features following the release of its first teaser clip. Latest reports have revealed some interesting details about the new console and its arsenal of gaming accessories.

Nintendo Switch is expected to change a gamer's playing behavior given the unit's hybrid design of a home console and portable gaming device. The Japan-based company's latest clip that unveiled some of the said unit's capabilities only served to whet the gaming community's interest for the device.

However, the video left out a few information about the unit and its specifications. One of the gaming community's questions centered on the Nintendo Switch's potential touchscreen feature.

Recently, sources confirmed to Eurogamer that Nintendo's new console will have a capacitive multi-touch screen. Measuring at 6.2 inches and with a resolution of 720p, the Switch's screen is the first Nintendo gaming device to feature the said touchscreen function. Similar to most smartphone units, players can use multi-finger strokes or gestures given the Nintendo Switch's 10-point multi-touch monitor.

Apart from the said feature, the upcoming gaming console also boasts of an IR sensor on both the Nintendo Switch Dock and the right-hand JoyCon controller. With the short range IR sensor, players can use the right-hand JoyCon to mimic some of the touchscreen movements or functions whenever the Switch is used for home gaming.

At this point, it is unclear if the said two features are a part of the Nintendo Switch's basic functions. Neither Nintendo nor its representatives have commented on the said news.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's head Tatsumi Kimishima commented that the public has yet to see all of the new console's features and functions. In an interview with Bloomberg, the Nintendo president made mention of the wide array of gaming accessories that will be made available for the console.

Withholding the gaming titles that will be available for the Nintendo Switch was also a deliberate decision made by the company, according to Kimishima. He added, "We want people to touch the device in January and experience the software for themselves."

Nintendo is expected to unveil more details about the Nintendo Switch in an event scheduled on Jan. 13, 2017. Watch the console's teaser clip below:
