Apple iPhone 8 Release Date, Specs & Latest News: iPhone 7 Successor Delayed? OLED Panels Possibly A Problem; 3 Different Versions Coming

The Apple iPhone 7 has only been available for a few months, but fans are already speculating about the Apple iPhone 8. There are talks that the Apple iPhone 8 may feature OLED panels and come in three variants.

Bloomberg wrote that Apple competitors have moved on from LCD to OLED panels. The Cupertino-based company is also eyeing on featuring the newer set of displays, but there may be problems in terms of production. The four main suppliers for the components may not be able to produce enough OLED screens for all new Apple iPhone 8 models in 2017, and may not be able to do so through 2018.

Apple iPhone 8 Release Date: Delays In OLED Panel Supply

The major suppliers for OLED panels that may be integrated into the Apple iPhone 8 are Samsung Display Co., Sharp Corp., LG Display Co., and Japan Display Inc. Samsung also makes OLED panels for its own smartphones, which means that it may not have enough to accommodate Apple's demands, especially during the holiday season.

The Apple iPhone 8 is set to undergo a significant redesign in 2017, since it will be Apple iPhone's 10th anniversary. There are rumors that the new Apple iPhone 8 will feature a bezel-less display, an OLED screen that curves over the edges and back and a home button directly integrated into the screen. There are also talks that the Apple iPhone 8 will come in three variants.

Apple iPhone 8 Models: 4.7-Inch, 5.5-Inch & 5.8-Inch Variants

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted that the Apple iPhone 8 may launch in three variants in 2017. The first will be a 4.7-inch model with a single-lens camera and LCD display.

The second Apple iPhone 8 variant will feature a 5.5-inch screen with a dual-lens camera and LCD display. The third will showcase the all-new OLED model with a dual-lens camera.

Kuo did not indicate the size of the OLED display, although he previously mentioned that the Apple iPhone 8 may include a 5.8-inch variant with curved OLED display and glass casing. Mac Rumors stated that other sources claimed that the Apple iPhone 8 may feature a 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.5-inch model, one of which will be premium model.
