Call of Duty: Ghosts - to Wii U, or not to Wii U?

Nintendo's Wii U might be passed up yet again, and this time, it's for a title that would really hurt the console - Call fo Duty: Ghosts.

As of last week, while never formally announced, Call of Duty: Ghosts was expected to arrive to the system. But as of now, that seems to be up in the air. When asked by GI.biz about the state of the game for the console, Ghosts' executive producer Mark Rubin apparently no longer knows, saying, "Ha! You know that's funny, because I don't even know the answer to that. I swear to God, I don't. I was trying to say in the interview [that] I really don't know and I'm not supposed to talk about it. I'm not supposed to talk about the fact that I don't know."

While it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the new CoD didn't arrive on the console, as that seems to be rapidly becoming both a tradition and a death knell for the Wii U, it would still be no doubt a big disappointment to owners. As of late, it seems like most developers are either passing on releasing their triple A titles on the console, or releasing them considerably later.

The last CoD title, Black Ops 2, did release on the Wii U, but to little fanfare. Seems that there's not a great many gamers who tout the Wii U as the best system for FPS games.

All the details of Ghosts' story have yet to be revealed, but so far we know that the game is set in a time when America is crippled by an attack, and that the player is part of an elite force sent to respond to the threat, forced to use weapons from this time, despite being set in the future.

The game is set in the year 2023, and according to the official E3 showcase, one of the in-game missions called Federation Day will take place in Caracas, Venezuela, which has been described as Ghosts' "enemy capital."

As we've seen with past Call of Duty games, Microsoft's Xbox One will get DLC before any other console, a trend continuing with Ghosts.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is set for a late 2013 release for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One. We'll keep you posted if there's any futher information on a version for Nintendo's Wii U.
