Call of Duty: Ghosts' Multiplayer Free on Steam This Weekend, Double XP Weekend Live

Call of Duty: Ghosts Begins Double XP Weekend on All Platforms, Multiplayer Free on Steam

After that little hiccup with the latest Personalization Packs for Call of Duty: Ghosts, here's a bright ray of sunshine that should help make up for things. Two special weekend activities are now underway for the game. A post on the Call of Duty Community had the specifics.

First, for the millions of you out there with Steam accounts, this weekend is the perfect time to try out the game's multiplayer mode, because it's now free from the streaming service. If you enjoyed your experience, then you can grab the game at half-price. The trial offer for the multiplayer is good until Sunday, February 23, 4PM EST, and you have until the following day, 1PM, to grab the game at its discounted price.

Also, as of right now, another of the franchise's infamous Double XP Weekend is now live for Ghosts on all platforms. So if the weather still has you trapped inside, here's a feasible option. The event closes Monday morning.

The aforementioned packs are now available, but only for Xbox One and Xbox 360 players for the time being. Expect them to hit remaining versions of the game after the usual 30 day exclusivity period. Onslaught, the first DLC for Ghosts, releases for PS3, PS4, and PC in a week from today.

Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place in a near future following an attack from space that leaves Los Angeles virtually wiped out, and the United States' infrastructure devastated. Years later, the country is invaded by a new superpower, a conglomerate of South American nations calling itself the "Federation." What's left of America's special forces have come together to form the titular "Ghosts," and it's up to them to wage guerrilla warfare against the Federation in order to protect what remains of the United States, and drive the Federation out.

Beyond the campaign, the game's multiplayer mode, which promises a slew of different customization options for weapons, character camos, and more. Over 30 new weapons are included alongside old favorites like the UMP45 and the M4A1.

Despite not the best reviews ever for a Call of Duty game, Ghosts was a hit right out of the gate, and it looks like it'll be continuing on that path for the forseeable future.
