The Legend of Zelda Easter Egg Discovered in inFamous: Second Son

The Legend of Zelda and the master sword by proxy has been around for a quarter of a century, and have managed to infiltrate a number of other games and genres, even with more recent title like Call of Duty: Ghosts. Now, inFamous: Second Son has taken over as the latest game to show respect for its roots.

Redditor DCDewey was sniffing around fellow conduit Eugene's apartment in Second Son. Not to get too spoiler-y, but Eugene, being a big gamer, has a few collectibles laying about. Players will meet Eugene about halfway through Second Son, and when you get the chance, make sure you have a close look around his place, because one of the things you can spot is a sure as scnhitzel tribute to the trademark weapon from the classic Nintendo series.

You can't pick up and wield the sword like the iconic Hero of Time, but it's cool that Sucker Punch took the time to pay tribute to such a well known series. Neon lasers and appearing a puff of smoke are probably a bit more suitable for taking on the D.U.P.

Granted, subtle differences are in place (likely so there's not any kind of legal issue) to ensure it's not an exact replica -- the blade splits at the tip, the guard is flipped, etc. If you wanted to push the point and argue about it even more, you could say that the Master Sword's appearances changes from game to game, but it's close enough that you can see where developer Sucker Punch was going with it. At the very least, Link's hallmark piece of cutlery at least inspired Eugene's bedside table/pallet decoration.

Apart from the layabouts in Eugene's place, there's a slew of other references to Sucker Punch's works, mostly that pilfuring raccoon Sly Cooper. Anyone else happen to spot Cole McG's Electronics?

inFamous: Second Son is out now exclusively for PlayStation4. The game recently beat out Titanfall alongside Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes in UK sales.
