Sniper Elite 5 Makes Use Of The PS5's DualSense Controller To The Absolute Fullest

Sniper Elite 5 Makes Full Use Of The PS5's DualSense In Great Ways

They used to say that playing shooter games is always better on the PC, but maybe Sniper Elite 5 is one of the many exceptions - more so if you get it for the PS5.

That's because developer Rebellion claims to have made extensive use of the Sony console's DualSense controller in helping make their game way more immersive. GamesRadar recently got their hands on a preview build of the game, where the DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers were used in full for the entire run.

According to Rebellion's head of design Jonathan Woodward, the advanced haptics tech of the PS5 controller make sure that different weapons feel unique in the players' hands every single time. What his means is that how one sniper rifle model would handle in a distinct way compared to another, and it will be even more different when you go wield a pistol or a machine gun.

Another example of how Sniper Elite 5 on PS5 uses the adaptive triggers is in aiming. Lightly touching the left trigger, for instance, will make your character perform an over-the-shoulder aim. But if you press it heavily, you'll aim down your scope.

Aside from that, Woodward also mentioned how they used the PS5's DualSense to make even reloading feel different and unique. They call this "Active Reload," which will let players "feel" the reload window. If you press down at an opportune time, you can reload quicker - which could be an excellent thing to have if things get too hot during an encounter.

To cap things off, Sniper Elite 5 on PS5 also uses a feature called HD Rumble which will further aim to improve overall immersion, as detailed in GamesRadar's hands-on preview. For example, shooting at a passing plane or vehicle will make the controller rumble in unique ways, alongside "much more" that the developers haven't revealed yet.

More New Details About Sniper Elite 5

One of the newest trailers for Sniper Elite 5 showcased some particularly brutal ways to kill Nazis. As expected, the series' patented (and arguably iconic) slow-mo killcams are back to let you see every single thing that your bullet does to your enemies' spongy bodies. Take them out by sneaking up to them and stabbing them in the face or the head, or blow up a truck using a single, well-placed shot to get a satisfying multi-kill.

And if you're pretty darn good at busting Nazi heads, maybe you could also be good enough to get a rather... weird trophy. PushSquare reported that in the game's day one DLC titled Wolf Mountain, you could get a special trophy for shooting Adolf Hitler in the man-parts.

Yes, you read that right. That's an obvious killshot if you know something about anatomy (i.e. the femoral artery). But that's not the only trophy you can get to show off your amazing skill. As revealed in Exophase, one of the game's trophies can be achieved if you kill enough enemies to accrue a total distance of 100,000 meters - meaning all your shots are pretty far. And another testicle shot trophy has you needing to kill an enemy from over 100 meters away or more.

Sniper Elite 5 releases on May 26th for last-gen and current-gen consoles, as well as PC.
