As per the gameplay trailer uploaded by PlayStation, Naughty Dog head honcho Neil Druckmann said that The Last Of Us Part 1 for the PS5 is more or less the culmination of a dream. When they were making the select flashbacks to the first game in TLOU2, the team was wondering how would it be like if they fully remade the game in the same quality (or beyond) as that of TLOU2.

They couldn't do that with the original 2013 game, as the technology of the PS3 limited them at the time. Druckmann mentioned to the team that if they did, then they would've come closer to "the original vision" they had for the first game if tech constraints never existed.

Game director Matthew Gallant echoed Druckmann's sentiment, saying that the original vision for TLOU was way bigger than what the PS3 was capable of. As such, this was the main goal they had for The Last Of Us Part 1 on PS5, which gave them all of the tools and goodies they needed to push the vision to its absolute limit.

As a result, this The Last Of Us Part 1 gameplay trailer revealed Naughty Dog's specific additions to the game as a whole. Aside from the redone character models, the game also features smarter AI. Enemies now "communicate" with each other as to how best to approach your position, and AI-controlled buddies like Ellie will actually move out of the way now if the enemy is getting closer to the visual range while you're in stealth.

To cap things off, the new The Last Of Us Part 1 gameplay trailer also reveals the addition of far more destructible objects. On PS5, the game will take full advantage of advanced haptics and adaptive triggers, 4K, HDR, and a smooth 60 FPS framerate coupled with the fast loading times on the SSD.

The Last Of Us Part 1 for the PS5 is scheduled to launch on Sept 2.

Still A 'Cash Grab?'

Despite the myriad of changes and reworks Naughty Dog has implemented into the game, fans were still not fond of the 2013 title re-releasing for the second time on a new console.

As reported by Comic Book, some keep on claiming the game is a blatant cash grab. They say that even if there were a lot of changes, the animations are still "very similar" to those from the original game. As a result, some people are now questioning whether there's actually a massive amount of effort put into the remake:

In response, a developer who worked on the PS5 exclusive said it is not a cash grab. Robert Morrison, who worked as an animator for Naughty Dog partner Visual Arts Studio, said that The Last Of Us Part 1 is "the most meticulously built and crafted project that I have ever seen or been a part of in my entire career." Even then, folks are questioning whether the changes are even worth the total $70 price tag for the next gen.
