Developer Remedy Entertainment has pushed Update 12 for the survival horror game Alan Wake 2 which is now available on all platforms. This patch is a must-have because it has finally fixed a well-known progression bug.

What is the Bug?

Before Update 12 went live, there was a bug in Alan Wake 2 commonly known as "Come up with a new plan," that prevented players from progressing through the mission, "Return 6: Scratch." After visiting the Mind Place with all of the clues, Saga Anderson must talk to Agent Estevez to proceed. However, players could not interact with the said agent for some reason. One user even recorded a video showcasing the bug in action.

Players were very upset by this because that particular mission is an important part of the main story. Some went to Reddit to voice their frustrations, such as Redditor @hollowbodies777, who said that they've been stuck and unable to progress through the campaign for two weeks.

Another user chimed in that they're going to shed light on the issue until it is fixed, or at the very least, gets acknowledged by the developers.

Well, it seems that the developers have heard the Alan Wake 2 community loud and clear! The folks over at Remedy Entertainment have launched a new patch that has finally fixed the said bug. According to Redditor @nstruct, the update has indeed fixed the progression bug on PC. Another Redditor posted that the issue has also been resolved on Xbox Series X.

Various Improvements

Aside from the major bug fix, Update 12 brought some technical and performance improvements. For instance, streaming performance has been improved in the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Furthermore, the game's memory usage has been optimized, resulting in more dead bodies lying on the ground for "added realism and spookiness."

Here are the other major improvements and bug fixes that have been implemented in this patch:

GLOBAL

  • Made the player able to push certain movable objects that might block the progress when revisiting combat areas (just walk into them...).

  • Fixed an issue where loading a save game during an enemy grapple would leave the player without movement controls.

  • Fixed an issue related to the Nursery Rhyme doll "Father" disappearing if placed in the wrong location and the player saved their game.

  • Fixed an issue where Saga couldn't shoot or damage an enemy hiding in the bushes after throwing a flare at the enemy.

  • Fixed an issue where the Wake insight at the Caldera Street station didn't trigger.

  • Fixed conversation interactions outside the Nursing Home not being consistently visible.

  • After the Summoning boss fight, only Saga can pick up crossbow bolts (sorry, Alan)

  • (PC) Made the GPU crash dialog more user-friendly with understandable error messages for non-Remedy engineers and QA.

  • (PC) Fixed switching from full screen to window occasionally resulting in wrong rendering resolution.

UI

  • Fixed an issue where players could not select the inventory items on the far-right side of their inventory.

  • Prevent the Shoebox from eating away players' items when they were stacked erroneously.

  • Added "Restore to Default" option to the Control Key Customization Tab.

CASE BOARD

  • Fixed an issue where Saga could only access the Case Board after Profiling but not via other Mind Place interactions.Improved automatically placing clues for already solved questions to the Case Board.

  • Fixed a wayward Bright Falls station photo being in the distinctly wrong location on the Case Board.
