Baldur's Gate 3: Larian Drops Massive New Patch That Introduces New Epilogues and 'Honour Mode'

Larian Studios has dropped the most "feature-filled" update for Baldur's Gate 3 to date. Patch 5 introduced a lot of amazing things to the game, including epilogues, the new "Honour Mode," and a new mode that lets players customize their gameplay experience, among many others!

The Epilogue

The Dungeons & Dragons tabletop games, which Baldur's Gate 3 is based on, are quite amazing not only because of the fun mechanics, but also the rich lore that people can truly enjoy while playing. Well, Larian Studios, the beloved developer of BG3, has done it again with the release of Patch 5.

One of the main highlights of this update is that it introduces "Epilogues" to the game. This is considered the true final chapter that is the culmination of every choice the player has made so far in their journey. According to the company, this is the game writers' magnum opus. "This 'final goodbye' has resulted in some of the most complex writing in the game thus far, as it takes advantage of Baldur's Gate 3's reactivity across the entire adventure," the statement reads.

Completing the epilogue provides some much-needed closure and the events that will unfold are all based on the decisions the players have made along the way. "It's a tender moment to reflect on the last six months since you took on your final challenge, together as a team, as well as your chance to say goodbye before the credits roll," the company said.

New Difficulty Modes

Players who have had an easy time playing Baldur's Gate 3 since its release can try the new difficulty modes that have been added in Patch 5.

Honour Mode is a new difficulty mode above Tactician that brings Legendary Actions to the game. Legendary Actions are things that powerful monsters can do after a player character's turn. To take things a step further, Larian Studios has also made over 30 new adjustments to all of the bosses in the game, so expect things to be incredibly harder than before.

As if that's not challenging enough, players only have one shot in Honour Mode. This means that players can test how long they will survive before they get beaten by a boss or whatnot. If players die in their adventures, Honour Mode is disabled but players can continue on if they want to.

While this new difficulty mode is challenging, to say the least, those who succeed in finishing the game in Honour Mode are rewarded with the coveted "Golden D20" or a fancy golden dice that they can use in their future adventures in BG3.

Players who do not necessarily want a challenging experience but want full control of how things will go can try the new Custom Mode. As the name implies, this game mode allows players to tweak various aspects of the game to their liking.

For example, players can adjust enemy loadouts, which is a setting that adjusts the items and spells enemies can use in combat. Custom Mode uses the "Balanced" preset by default, but players can set it to "Tactician" which enables enemies to use the most advanced spells and items they have in their arsenal.

Other settings players can adjust in Custom Mode include enemy aggression, character power, enemy critical hits, and trader price modifiers, among many others.
