Payday 3 is in a rough spot, with significantly lower numbers than developer Starbreeze Studios would have liked. Much of that can be attributed to the server issues that have plagued the game since launch, which led to the player base clamoring for an offline mode. After much deliberation, the company is finally moving the needle, with the feature now in the works.

Why Now?

Starbreeze Studios CEO Tobias Sjögren recently revealed Payday 3's Operation Medic Bag. According to the company's Chief Executive Officer, this is an update that brings some changes that will hopefully turn things around for the embattled heist-shooter.

Sjögren admits that Payday 3 is not doing well and that some drastic changes need to happen in order to put things on the right track. Hence, the company has set its eyes on finally adding what the community had always wanted since the game was launched: Offline Mode.

The said feature allows players to enjoy the heist-shooter without having to connect to the game's server. However, before that can happen, Offline Mode will be rolled out in two phases.

In the first phase, players will still need a consistent connection to the game's backend systems for unlocking new content and saving progression. This will further be improved in the second phase, where players will only need to connect to the servers just to upload their progress.

The company is going to disclose more information about Offline Mode soon. Although there is no specific release date for the said feature, Starbreeze Studios assures players that it will be implemented sometime this year.

What Lies Ahead

Aside from Offline Mode, what other things can Payday 3 players expect in 2024? Well, the company will add other interesting features to the game, including:

  • Quickplay v1

  • Loadout Renaming

  • Recurring Smaller Content Drops

  • Controller Improvements

  • Vote Kick

  • Rotating Stealth Modifiers

  • Unready Button

  • Play Again Feature

  • Merge Players into Party Post Match

  • Daily Activities with Rewards

  • Mask Vendor with Weekly Rotating Inventory

  • Communication Wheel Improvements v1

It is a good thing to know that despite overwhelming odds, the company is not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Ever since the game launched in September of last year, the player count took a nosedive from 69,112 all the way down to the hundreds. In fact, at the time of writing, only 369 players logged into the game in the past 24 hours.

With Payday 3's roadmap revealed, do you think that the addition of Offline Mode is enough to entice players to pick up the game again? Or do you think that it is too little, too late?
