Apex Legends Update Broke the Game, Resets Hundreds of Accounts, Removes Earned Content

An Apex Legends update broke the game so badly that it caused hundreds of players' accounts to reset and also removed earned content for others.

The game's developer, Respawn, has posted about the issue, saying that they were aware of the reports and have issued a fix to prevent any player logging in from having their account wiped. However, for the players who have already had their games affected, the company said that they are working to have a fix.

The first reports of issues came from players who logged into their game and received a message saying "Cross progression is here." However, cross-progression has, in fact, been here for a few months. After that, other players have reported that they found big chunks of their account progress being reset and some even had their stats erased.

The account progress issue was widespread enough that the Apex Legends subreddit was even locked down in an attempt to curb the number of posts from players who were panicking. The discussions were now limited to a handful of megathreads where people commiserate over their lost progress, according to GamesRadar+.

The details that some players have provided varied but the reports usually included the loss of hundreds of account levels, total battle pass wipes, and some even lost their heirlooms. The latest issue comes as Apex Legends has been having a bad few weeks, including a major tournament that was affected by mid-game hacks.

The in-game store had also been reported to have malfunctioned for some players. Right now, it is still unclear what the cause of the issue is but it occurred following the April Fools update and the new split of the season.

Last month, Respawn also conducted a round of layoffs for its Apex Legends team and players quickly mentioned the previous incidents following the latest mishap. The latest problem is also a disappointment for longtime fans of the game, especially since it has tried to renew player interest with an extensive overhaul for its Breakout update, said Insider Gaming.

Issuing a Fix for the Problem

Some Apex Legends professionals, including Jacob "HisWattson" and Twitch streamers and content creators like Lindsey "LuluLuvely" publicly called out EA for the latest issue. FURIA HisWattson revealed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that was also affected by the wipe and he lost his Predator badge from last season as well as several of his heirloom skins.

On the other hand, Thordan Smash, a YouTuber, expressed his frustration at the issue and noted that he had lost nine tiers instead of six. He also called out EA for releasing what he called "the most expensive heirloom" skin in the game in an update that caused players to lose their other skins.

The issue has also affected iiTzTimmy's Apex Legends account which was reset to level 1 while he was streaming DSG scrims on Twitch. LuluLuvely also criticized EA, saying that the company laid off its entire QA department, which she claimed was the reason for the issue, according to Sportskeeda.
