Epic Games Unveils Unreal Engine 6, Teases ‘Rocket League’ Upgrade

Unreal Engine 6 will power Rocket League and the future metaverse experience.

It is official, Unreal Engine 6 is on its way from Epic Games after it was unveiled by the company via a new teaser video, which showcases the power of its new game engine.

The first game that Epic Games will apply Unreal Engine 6 to is "Rocket League," with the company also teasing plans about it being used for the development of their take on the metaverse.

Epic Games Unveil Unreal Engine 6

Epic Games officially unveiled the new Unreal Engine 6 game engine during the recent "Rocket League" Championship Series 2026 Paris Major event alongside developer Psyonix.

Here, the pair announced the new era for "Rocket League" as the free-to-play racing football game is set to be among the first titles under Epic's franchises to use the latest UE6.

Alongside this, there is a massive teaser that UE6 will be the start of a connected era across Unreal Engine-powered games in the future, including their plans to deliver their version of the metaverse.

This latest introduction is the culmination of various years of work over at Epic, with a previous teaser coming directly from Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, back in January 2024.

According to Digital Trends and other reports, Epic Games has not discussed what Unreal Engine 6 will bring to the table, but it is expected to address the issues that Unreal Engine 5 faced in the past. This includes stutters during actual gameplay, shader compilation times, and inconsistent frame rates.

It is known that the Unreal Engine platform has been one of the top-used game engines for most AAA games in the modern era.

Epic Teases 'Rocket League' as First UE6 Game

Based on the teaser showcased to fans worldwide, "Rocket League's" run on the new Unreal Engine 6 features crisper images, cleaner details, more dynamic lighting, and reflective surfaces, among many others.

The game is best known for originally running on Unreal Engine 3, an engine that was released over a decade ago in 2013. However, that will no longer be the case in the future as "Rocket League" will be among the first games to get the UE6 upgrade from Epic.

No other games were mentioned specifically for Unreal Engine 6, but it is expected that "Fortnite" will follow suit with this engine upgrade.
