'Eve Online' News: Monument Vandalized As A Player On Name List Scratched Out by Attendee? [VIDEO]

Eve Online Monument Vandalized at Fanfest, Player Name Scratched Out by Attendee

Developers CCP created and unveiled a monument to the active players of Eve Online, a plinth engraved with their names standing in the studio's native Iceland. CCP displayed the monument ahead of its fanfest, but it has already been vandalized by some of the attendees.

A few Eve Online players took the opportunity afforded to them by fanfest to carry out personal agendas and vendettas, marking up the new monument. One group of notorious griefers plastered its logo on the monument, while another player decided to scratch out one of the names listed.

As seen on the Eve Online forums and NeoGAF, the group Goonswarm put its emblem (a helmet-wearing bee with a cigar called "Fatbee") on the monument, which you can see below. It's not a sticker that can simply be peeled off, so it might just be staying there for right now.

Goonswarm is infamous for ruining things in-game as well, including griefing the work of other players, attacking Eve's economic hub, and planned suicide bombings. The supposedly placed the logo in the closing hours of CCP's fanfest.

Another (probably more permanent) act of vandalism was the scratching out of a fellow Eve player's name. A Twitter user going by Gaius Homerson proudly posted a picture of the monument in which the name Xenuria has been scratched out.

Alongside the picture, Homerson tweeted, "@Xenuria found your name and lost it again. #tweetfleet #eveonline #evefanfest You're welcome, everyone in Eve!"

Xenuria is a noted troublemaker in Eve, but it's a shame (though not surprising) that in-game conflicts have spilled over to real life and damaged CCP's creation. It remains to be seen if the developers will take measures against the perpetrators in real life or in-game--we'll keep you posted on any statement from the studio.
