Roblox Corp. shares rose nearly 3.5% after Russian authorities signaled they are prepared to lift restrictions on the gaming platform following an agreement on new child-safety measures.

By late morning trading in New York on Jun. 8, Roblox stock was up almost 3.5%, reaching about $43.90, according to Russian business outlet Vedomosti, which cited Bloomberg data.

The gains came after Russia's Digital Development Ministry and communications regulator Roskomnadzor said they had proposed removing access restrictions on Roblox in the country.

The platform has been unavailable in Russia since December 2025, when regulators ordered a block over alleged extremist content and child-safety concerns, according to The Edge Malaysia.

Protecting Russian Users on 'Roblox'

In an early June statement, the Digital Development Ministry said it had completed talks with Roblox on conditions intended to protect the rights and interests of Russian users, especially minors.

The ministry said Roblox had agreed to introduce a series of measures aimed at shielding children from "harmful and dangerous information" and from unwanted interactions with other users.

Access to games on the platform will be restricted by age groups, and Roblox pledged additional steps to curb content that could harm children's health and development, according to the ministry.

Roskomnadzor originally blocked Roblox on Dec. 3, 2025, citing what it described as the prevalence of inappropriate content, including material it said promoted extremism and LGBT themes and could attract pedophiles, the Washington Post reported.

The ban sparked debate inside Russia about censorship and the effectiveness of internet restrictions, as children and parents discussed ways young users could bypass the block.

Russian and international media reported that some children wrote to President Vladimir Putin asking for access to the platform to be restored.

Roblox had previously indicated it was willing to change how the platform operates in Russia to comply with local law.

Revising the Platform's Moderation Processes

A company representative told Reuters in December 2025 that Roblox was prepared to temporarily limit certain communication features in Russia and revise its moderation processes to meet legal requirements for restoring access.

Roskomnadzor said at the time that Roblox had promised to take steps to remove harmful content and prevent criminal activity and risky user interactions on the platform.

With the latest proposal, the Digital Development Ministry and Roskomnadzor have asked relevant law-enforcement bodies to support lifting the restrictions on Roblox.

The regulators did not give a specific timetable for when Russian users might regain access to the platform.

Market reaction on Jun. 8 suggests investors view a potential reopening of the Russian market as a positive development for Roblox's user growth and revenue prospects, even though Russia is not the company's largest market globally, as per Investing.
