'Terminator 5 Genesis' Script Impressions: Actor JK Simmons Reveals Thoughts On Upcoming Sequel

Terminator: Genesis Script Impressions From Cast

Actor J.K. Simmons, best known by fans as J. Jonah Jameson from Sam Raimi's Spider-man films, opened up a little about his impressions of the script for the upcoming sci-fi reboot/reimagining/non-sequel Terminator: Genesis, due out next summer.

Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer 2 Is Amazing

"The script, I think, is very smart, and it's going to be a wonderful part for Arnold to do. Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney are already shooting - we did a table read a few weeks ago - and all of them are going to be great." Simmons said, speaking to EW while promoting his new film Whiplash at Cannes this week.

Simmons, though no stranger to blockbusters, certainly doesn't seem the type to mix it up against the unrelenting hordes of machines sent from Skynet. In fact, Simmons will be the first person to tell you that he didn't immediately jump at the chance to be a part of a seminal, if slightly stagnant, cinematic franchise.

"I was leery of it when it first came my way, when my agent sent me the idea for it," said Simmons. "It's a small part, which they insist gets much bigger in the sequels. But I was very pleasantly surprised by the script itself."

Wolfenstein: The New Order Is The Wolfenstein Game You've Waited For

The actor says he has only seen the first two James Cameron-directed entries into the franchise. Wait, they made more? Very much looking forward to seeing what director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World) has in store for us for this, the very first sequel to the still outstanding Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Joking aside, the film will also be the start of a new trilogy of sci-fi adventure, which will also be accompanied by a second television show, which will tie into the film's overall mythology and hopefully help to explain some of the time travel occurring.

Terminator: Genesis demands your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle July 1st, 2015.

Meanwhile, here's the theme music to Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
