'Starcraft 2' Red Bull Battle Grounds Tournament Welcomes All Challengers, Tickets Go On Sale In July [VIDEO]

Red Bull 'Starcraft 2' Tournament Welcomes All Challengers

Think you have what it takes to go toe to toe, or at least finger to finger, against some of the best Starcraft II players in the country? The Red Bull Battle Grounds will be streaming its first live audience event July 11-13 from the Center Stage Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. Sure, you can watch the event, but wouldn't you rather take part in it?

The WCS (World Championship of Starcraft) sanctioned tournament will be the "first spectator event in the history of Red Bull eSports to boast an open registration format, giving up-and-coming amateurs a fighting chance to experience a taste of the pro gaming life." 128 men will enter, only 1 will emerge the winner of an all expenses paid trip to Washington, DC for the Battle Grounds Grand Finals on September 20-21. Oh, the winner of the Atlanta e-tournament will also pocket a cool $25,000. Registration opens next week at the official Red Bull e-sports site.

Previous Red Bull Battle Grounds champions have been crowned from some the biggest names on the competitive StarCraft II circuit, including last year's winner Lee Sak 'PartinG' Won and 2012 champion Min Chul 'MC' Jang.

The lifestream of the event will begin every day at 11 AM on the official site. If you find yourself in the Atlanta area, tickets for the event are on sale now. $15 nets you a single day pass, while $35 will get you in for the entire tournament. Local fans can enjoy a home turf advantage, and purchase tickets at the venue, Center Stage, for $10/single day or $25 for the full tournament weekend. If you miss the Atlanta event, you can grab tickets for the Battle Grounds Detroit event on 8/22-8/24.

In my wildest dreams, I would never be good enough to compete in something like this, but I am deathly jealous of those who can. I am not an active person and I love Starcraft in all its forms. Watching these tournaments is like watching gods play the game the way it was meant to be played. It's truly unreal and if you've never seen it before, you owe yourself to check it out at least once. You think you know how to play Starcraft? I assure you, you have no idea.
