An offshoot of this year's Fantastic Fest, MondoCon 2014 is taking place in Austin later this month. It will offer a celebration of film, music, art, toys, and much, much more.
New York Comic Con Teams Up With Brooklyn Brewery For Official 'Brooklyn Defender' IPA
Mondo is pretty well known among the film community for being behind some of the finest posters to ever exist, and they're using their connections with the art world to bring us something special.
The con will take place during the same weekend as Fantastic Fest and will allow anyone holding a FF badge to attend, even offering a free shuttle to bring attendees back and forth from the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar to The Marchesa Hall & Theater where MondoCon is taking place
Not only will MondoCon offer a multitude of free panels but it will also showcase two premium featured screenings. On Saturday September 20 you can see Total Recall, which will come with a limited edition poster by JC Richard, followed by Sunday September 21's screening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, performed with an original live score, which will also be provided recorded on vinyl for anyone who purchases a ticket.
Film fans will undoubtedly want to check out the Godzilla 1983 panel, which features artist William Stout taking the audience through his storyboard and concept art for the unproduced (and relatively unknown!) American adpatation.
Another highlight will be FUTURE SHOCK! The Story of 2000AD, the world premiere documentary of the comics industry legends, the folks behind Judge Dredd and so much more.
But really, there's so much more. Geoff Daroff (the Matrix) showing off the latest adaptation of his work, a look at Mondo's new toy line, a lost score for 2001: A Space Odyseey, a documentary on CANON FILMS (!)... there isn't a bad event on this list.
