Assassin's Creed Unity Co-op Details: Co-op Missions Will Not Require Specific Actions For Full Sync, Will Be More Difficult Playing Solo

Unity's Co-op Missions Are Harder While Playing Alone And They Change How They Handle Full Sync

A couple of new details about co-op play in Assassin's Creed Unity were revealed this week, including information about difficulty curve and how players can achieve full synchronization.

The first bit of news comes from a post on the official Assassin's Creed website. In the post, Associate Level Design Director Christophe Rossignol notes describes the details about obtaining full synchronization for a co-op mission.

In previous games, 100 percent completion of a level meant performing a specific sets of tasks, like killing an enemy with a certain weapon or making sure to remain undetected. Though these kinds of constraints might be in Unity's single-player missions, the co-op missions look like they're losing this mechanic. Instead, the game will offer some kind of style points - here called Creed Points - for performing actions in tandem with co-op partners.

"We still have Synchronization," Rossignol said in the post, "but it's based on players' actions, so the mission doesn't demand that you do any specific action."

On the topic of co-op missions, Ubisoft has said previously that all co-op missions will be able to be completed solo. According to a recent post on the UbiBlog, though, the difficulty for these missions will not change if the player is going it alone. What this could mean is that players who prefer doing Brotherhood missions without backup could find themselves up against more enemy units than they're used to, requiring them to take a little more time calculating their approach. The missions really do seem to encourage players to team up, whether with friends or through matchmaking.

Finally, a new Unity video goes over some other details about the game's co-op. Most of the information can be found in earlier videos, but they also add information about the game's taverns. In these taverns found within Unity's Paris, players will be able to see which of their friends are online and what they're currently doing. If they're in a single-player mission, they should probably be left alone. If a player's friends are free roaming or in a co-op mission, though, the player could choose to try to catch up with them and spend some time stabbing their way through Paris together.

Assassin's Creed Unity will drop for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC systems on November 11.
