NBA 2K15 MyPlayer Face Scanning Demonstration: Make Your Pro Look More Like You Than Ever Before

NBA 2K15 launches tomorrow on all platforms, and the team over at PlayStation decided it was a good time to demonstrate the MyPlayer face-scanning feature.

The Crew Delayed On All Platforms, Another Beta Coming

With the PlayStation Camera, players will be able to scan their real faces into the game to be used on the MyPlayer models. These are the pro players you build up from the draft through an NBA Career, and now they can look more like you than any you've custom built in the past.

The results--shown in the picture above and the other below--do a pretty good job of transferring the images into the game's engine. They're not exact likenesses, but several facial features make the transition well, and they definitely resemble the people they're based on. The scanned images have to be converted into the graphics engine of course, and that results in the faces conforming a bit more to the big athletic models, which isn't a bad thing--some of us might look a bit silly transposed exactly as is onto an NBA player's body.

Scanning requires just a well-lit area and turning your head from side to side while keeping level with the camera, and you can fine-tune the result. EA's FIFA series has offered a similar feature in the past, but it required a clumsy process using a computer to upload an image and put it back into the game through your EA account--not nearly as simple as this. NBA 2K15 launches on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows tomorrow, October 7.
