This holiday, spend Christmas with someone you love. The Doctor Who Christmas special has released the first trailer to herald the upcoming season.

Avengers Movie Will Effect Agents of Shield Says Director Joss Whedon

The episode, titled "Last Christmas", may point to a more ominous future for the show. In the trailer we see the current Doctor played by Peter Capaldi taking Clara, current compainion played by Jenna Coleman, onto a fun filled adventure to the North Pole where they'll help Santa repair his sleigh, bake cookies with Mrs. Kringle, and help elves build toys, all while singing merrily and really capturing the spirit of the holiday.

Lulz, just kidding. This is Doctor Who. The North Pole is under attack by aliens.

Although, Santa does make an appearance, because this is a Christmas special after all. The Doctor arrives just in the nick of time (get it?) to save four crew members trapped in a Polar Base during an extremely localized alien invasion plan.

Of course, this may also be Coleman's big goodbye. As we know, the Doctor is forever but his companions are not. They all end up leaving him in the end. One way or another, no one lasts. Clara started with 11 and has passed on to 12, this may be her last hurrah. Moffet has said this is going to be "an emotional story". Get your tissues ready, this will probably be heartbreaking. The special airs on December 25- watch the trailer below.
