To further the idea that the two may reconcile, Larry (Jason Biggs) will not be returning in the new season, as Cinema Blend reported. Which is for the best, he was a pretty terrible prison boyfriend anyway.
Without the looming idea that she's being unfaithful, Piper may use this time to explore a real relationship with Alex who she's drawn to.
It's possible that the character of Stella is less a trophy and more of an agitator between the two women. That completely changes the dynamics of the love triangle.
The next season is about 'faith'. Alex and Piper's trial could be faith in their own relationship and each other.
There's no official date yet but Netflix has said Orange is the New Black will return in the summer of this year.
