'Fallout 4' Latest MODS Update Gives Players Better Control, Improves Server Security

The "Fallout 4" MODS website of Bethesda recently received a new update, which provides new features that allows extra flexibility in the posting and use of MODS. Users can expect to gain more control and added convenience in downloading and loading MODS.

"Fallout 4" MODS was previously launched by Bethesda in April 2016 for Windows PC. The MOD support also became available on Xbox One in May. PlayStation 4 is still waiting for the new feature to arrive. An update to the Creation Kit getting ready for a closed BETA showed that the PS4 console will only have 900MB of space for MODS, compared to the 2GB space that the Xbox One has.

Neurogadget reported that there are new options available in the Fallout 4 MODS, such as players seeing their MODS' stats, commenting moderately, liking comments and editing the version number of the mod using a custom name. There are new categories that have been added to mod reports, as well as time-based filters that were provided to the major search categories.

On the details page, players can add minimum requirements for a MOD. Players will be required a specific MOD or add-on to run their MOD. Bethesda stated that these requirements may be official add-ons or custom MODS that developers came up with.

The server-side security has also been improved by Bethesda, which will currently compel players to use a Steam account linked to their Bethesda account to upload mods. The approach will let Bethesda ban gamers who upload MODS that were made by others.

According to Venture Beat, the Fallout MODS was originally scheduled to launch for PS4 in June 2016. However, Bethesda recently confirmed that its release will be delayed, since it still needs to work through the software limitations of Sony. The two companies are discussing the issues regarding importing textures from Bethesda.net to PS4 and Sony's proprietary audio format.

Sony is reportedly getting fixes for three known issues with mods on PS4 before making it available for gamers. The game developer is also said to be working to increase the 900MB limit that PS4 has for mods. A new date for the PS4 mod support has yet to be announced.

"Fallout 4" was one of the best-selling games in the past year. It is the first time in the gaming industry that mod support was introduced to consoles, which will keep gamers engaged and expecting new add-on content.
